HISTORY

In the fall of 1986, a small group of concerned citizens began organizing Iin an effort to establish a single location  in our community to help those less fortunate.  The Ministerial Alliance wanted a centralized place to refer people who needed help.  The Goodlettsville Help Center was formed in March, 1987.

The essense of the program was to provide a centralized fund and location to provide help.  All the funds, previously operating individually, “pooled” their resources into this Center (i.e. the 10th District Welfare Fund (managed by Mr. Claude Garrett), the Big Brothers, United Way funds, the Ministerial Alliance, the Millersville Help Center and various benevolent funds.

The Goodlettsville Help Center recruited a volunteer Executive Director (Nelle Liggett) and started operating out of a room in Goodlettsville City Hall.  After a few months, the Bank of Goodlettsville (now Regions Bank) donated  space for a new location.  Food could now be stored for distribution and better records maintained.  The Help Center remained in the basement of the old Bank of Goodlettsville until 2000.  At that time, the Help Center purchased the building at 108 Depot Street, its present location.

In 2009, the building on Depot Street was renovated and set up to provide additional storage, enlarge the Thrift Store, and provide space for a computer lab and educational classes.
