PROGRAMS

GHC strives to assist the needy in our community, not only with food and emergency funding, but also to become more self sufficient.   We offer the following programs:

  1. GED CLASSES -   Registration/Placement testing and Orientation take place in Gallatin at the Board of Education Bldg.  Day and evening classes are available.  They are held in Hendersonville and are free.  Final testing is at Volunteer State for a fee of $65.00.  If you live in zip code 37072 and successfully pass the test, the Help Center will reimburse you for the $65.00 test fee.  Call 451-5418 for information regarding registration and orientation.  Fall 2010 class dates yet to be announced.
  2. FOOD STAMPS ASSISTANCE - A representative from the Department of Human Services is available twice a month at the Help Center to  sign up for Food Stamps.  Call 859-4706 for the dates.
  3. BASIS COMPUTER SKILLS - This class provides instruction of computer basics, software (Windows, Word, Excel and Powerpoint) and provides one-on-one assistance.
  4. CHRISTMAS FOOD BOXES and TOY STORE - Anyone from zip code 37072 can pre-register to receive a food box containing necessary food (a turkey, canned vegetables, eggs, milk, fresh vegetables and fruit, rolls, crackers, rice, etc.)  to prepare their Chritmas meal.   We also offer the opportunity for parents to register to shop for free toys from our annual Toy Store.   Because we do not have a sponsor for either of these programs at the present time, we must limit the number of families who can participate in each program to the first 100 who register.
